There is nothing that makes me swell with pride when I see Lenny or Rex act compassionately toward another. If we had an official family motto, it would be: "Be kind." We both believe that this is so important! Rex will often stroke Lenny's head if he is upset, or say "Sorry," even if he didn't do anything to Lenny. Lenny will sings to Rex when Rex cries, and he climbs into Rex's crib nearly every morning to snuggle if Rex wakes up early and is upset. Lenny illustrated two instances of very sweet compassion recently:
Big Bad Wolf:
Kiki was babysitting, and Lenny was very concerned about how Kiki would get home. She had been dropped off at our house, and it was now dark outside. Kiki explained that Papa would drive her home. Lenny got deep in thought, "Yes, that is good that Papa will drive you. If you walked home the Big Bad Wolf might come and you would be scared. Then what would you do? Would you call Papa? And Papa would say, 'Big Bad Wolf, go away, you can't eat Kiki!' That would be good." After a long pause, Lenny got a very concerned look on his face, "... but Kiki, the Big Bad Wolf is probably hungry!"
Lenny's pregnancy:
When we came home from a doctor's visit around 12 weeks, we had a sonogram with two pictures of the baby. Lenny asked, "Is this top one yours and the bottom one mine?" I just said yes. Ever since then, Lenny has been telling people that we are going to have two babies in the summer. The other day, he was watching TV and said, "I don't want to have to stop watching this, but this baby is jumping all over my bladder, and I have to go potty." He also will occasionally complain about his sore back (from the baby), or explain to me that he "can't stop eating this because the baby in his tummy is hungry!" He really is so sweet... I just hope he is not disappointed when there is only one baby in July!
